| Estartit
Fancy a nice relaxing, family holiday? If you do, then Estartit is the destination you're looking for. So where is L'Estartit (to give it its Spanish name)?
Estartit is in the Costa Brava, an area located on the north east coast of Spain. The region stretches from the French border all the way down to Barcelona.
If you are flying from the UK it takes less than two hours to get to Gerona and then maybe 40 minutes to the resort. Think about it, I have spent longer in a traffic jam, in apptoxametly 2hrs 30 mins, you could be sitting on the beach.
When I say beach, I don't mean any old beach. Estartit has one of the best beaches I’ve seen; the sand just seems to go on forever. Even in the peak of summer, there was plenty of room for me and the family to sunbath. Justing sitting on that beach, looking down the coast, at the tree-covered hills, tapas bars, and hill top villas, is enough to make the stress of everyday life fade away.
When you have had enough of soaking up the rays and watching your children swim in the clear blue sea, why not take a stroll along promenade to Estartits pretty marina. When you get there, you will fined a excellent selection of restaurants and tapas bars, where you can eat excellent seafood, drink wine and watch the world go by.
After lunch, why not visit the shops in Santa Anna Street. Santa Anna Street is the street that leads from the Estartit’s harbour to the town square. It is also a gift hunter’s paradise. You can purchase the usual L’Estartit towels, L’Estartit beach hats and L’Estartit T-shirts. However, you can also buy a vast range of local Catalonian crafts. When you have finished buying souvenirs for friends and family back at home, you might feel a bit exhausted. Lets face it, fine food, blue skies, and shopping, can take it out of the best of us. Time to head to the town square.
Estartit Town Square is surrounded by quiet bars and restaurants. Why not pull up a chair at one of the tree-shaded tables, in front of the little church, and share a cold jug of sangria and just relax. After draining the last of the sangria why not take the children and yourself back to your accommodation and take a well-deserved siesta. After all the Costa Brava nights are long!
After a refreshing rest and with the sun waning, your thoughts will probably turn to dinner. Here again Estartit comes into its own. No matter what food you like, Estartit has something for even the most demanding diner. If you want to try the local dishes, there are harbour side restaurants serving paella and excellent seafood. You can also experience Catalonian cuisine in the many tapas bars. If this type of food is not for you, no problem. Estartit also has a vast array of restaurants serving chicken, pork, lamb, and steak. There are pizzerias, Chinese and Indian restaurants, and fast food outlets.
Maybe, after an hour or two of fine food and local wine you might be ready to call it a day. After all this was your first day in Estartit. Before you do why not take a leisurely walk along the sea front and watch the sun go down. Then, when you get back to your villa or apartment, put the children to bed, pour yourself a tall cold drink, and put your feet up. After all tomorrows another day.
